Texas-formed Cigarettes After Sex return with a neat two-sided move. 'Anna Karenina' pinches Tolstoy's title and adds new spoken word passages, sensitising the intimacy of his usual, presumably always post-coital confessionals. With melodrama worn lightly, both the A and the flip wear Greg Gonzalez' gossamer layering with pride, but the B is itself its own surprise: a long-circulated take on The Doors' 'The Crystal Ship', faithful in structure but steeped in aforementioned narcotic haze. Jim Morrison's necrotic fatalism fits snugly in Gonzalez's dream-pop restraint, the dubiety of the original song well masked.
